Introduction

The NCR RealScan™ 79 Bi-Optic Imaging Scanner/Scale (7879) is a state-of-the-art product. Its primary use is in high-performance checkout areas such as supermarkets, hypermarkets, and mass merchandising stores. The NCR 7879 can read a bar code on all six sides of the product as it passes through the Scan Zone. It can read many different types of bar codes, including the newer Quick Reference Codes (QR Code). By using imaging technology the NCR 7879 can also read bar codes on electronic displays such as coupon bar codes on mobile phones. The many features of the NCR 7879 increase operator efficiency, making it the ideal Scanner/Scale for use in self‑checkout systems.

The scale determines the weight of an object placed on the Top Plate. It then displays the weight on the NCR RealScan™ 7825 Remote Compact Display (if included with the system) and sends the weight data to the Host Terminal when requested.
