Volume Adjust Button

The Volume Adjust Button on the Operator Display Panel changes the Good Read tone volume and frequency (tone). This button can be programmed to work in various ways.

Volume Levels

There are eight standard volume settings in the NCR 7879. However, there are programming sequences that activate three or eleven volume levels. This feature gives the operator greater flexibility in selecting the appropriate volume of the Good Read Tone. This parameter does not have a default value. However, the NCR 7879 is shipped from the factory with this parameter disabled. The default setting is eight volume levels.

Note:  When 3-level is disabled, 8-level or 11-level volume setting will be enabled (depending on the last configured volume level).

Enable 3–Volume Level

This parameter remains enabled after setting the scanner to factory default settings (Diagnostic Mode, Hex 5, Hex 9, Save and Reset), unless equivalent disable programming is scanned (Programming Mode, Hex 4, Hex 2, Hex 6, Save and Reset). The default tag does not change this parameter.

Enable / Disable Volume Adjust Button

Through programming, the Volume Adjust button can be enabled or disabled. If disabled, the Good Read tone volume and tone are set using the various programming tags; and pressing the button does not change the Good Read tone. If the Volume Adjust Button is being disabled, be sure to set the volume, tone, and tone length to the desired settings first. The default is Enable.

Single Volume Adjust Bar Code

There is a single Volume Adjustment bar code in the Programming Tag booklet, NCR Scanner Programming Tags (BST0-2121-74) available at https://onlinehelp.ncrvoyix.com. (The tags are also included in Appendix B of this document.). This bar code functions exactly in the same manner as pressing the volume adjust button, except the disable Volume Adjust Button sequence has no effect when reading this bar code. The volume obtained by using this bar code is temporary. That is, if used outside a Program Mode/Save and Reset tag sequence, the original programmed volume level returns when the scanner is power cycled. But if the Volume Adjustment bar code is scanned within a Program Mode/Save and Reset tag sequence, or the Reset bar code from the booklet is scanned, the volume is saved as if it had been changed by using Worksheet 11.

Adjusting the Good Read Tone

The following procedure uses the Good Read Tone programming parameters to adjust the Good Read Tone. Be sure the Volume Adjust button is enabled; refer to Enable / Disable Volume Adjust Button earlier in this chapter.

Enable Good Read Tone

1.Program Mode – puts the NCR 7879 in the Programming Mode. This must be the first tag scanned after supplying power or after scanning the Reset tag.

2.Hex 1, Hex 1 – puts the NCR 7879 in the Good Read Tone parameters program.

3.Hex 1 – turns on Good Read tone if was previously turned off.

Note:  The NCR 7879 exits Good Read Tone parameters programming and returns to the Programming Mode.

Set Tone Frequency

1.Hex 1, Hex 1 – puts the NCR 7879 in the Good Read Tone parameters program.

2.Hex B – repeatedly scan this tag until you reach the desired tone frequency.

3.End – goes back to the Programming Mode.

Set Tone Length

1.Hex 1, Hex 1 – puts the NCR 7879 in the Good Read Tone parameters program.

2.Hex C – repeatedly scan this tag until you reach the desired tone length.

3.End – goes back to the Programming Mode.

Set Tone Volume

1.Hex 1, Hex 1 – puts the NCR 7879 in the Good Read Tone parameters program.

2.Hex D – repeatedly scan this tag until you reach the desired tone volume.

3.End – go back to the Programming Mode.

Disable Volume Adjust Button

1.Hex 3, Hex E, Hex 0 – disables the Volume Adjust button – use only these settings.

2.Save and Reset tag – stores the Good Read Tone parameters and the Volume Adjust button settings.
