Scanner Cloning with the Flash Drive

The firmware and/or the Program Parameters can be cloned from one NCR 7879 to another by using a USB Flash Drive. This can be helpful in installations where there are multiple NCR 7879 Scanner/Scale devices that need to have identical programming. The NCR 7879 provides a programming sequence that copies its information to the USB Flash Drive.

Note:  This procedure is used if the RealScan Scanner Flash Drive Prep Tool is not used to load the USB Flash Drive before going to the installation site.

Use the following procedure to clone multiple NCR 7879 Scanner/Scale devices.

1.Select the NCR 7879 you want to clone. Verify that it contains the desired program; it may be necessary to program this NCR 7879 before continuing.

2.Reset the NCR 7879 by scanning the RESET tag or by removing and then supplying power to the scanner.

3.Scan one of the following sequences of programming tags to identify what you want to copy to the USB Flash Drive.

•Program Mode, Hex 7, Hex F, Hex C – clones firmware and program parameters.

•Program Mode, Hex 7, Hex F, Hex D – clones firmware only.

•Program Mode, Hex 7, Hex F, Hex E – clones program parameters only.

4.When the scanner says "Insert USB flash drive", insert the USB Flash Drive into a USB port on the scanner. The scanner confirms and says "Load program in 3 seconds... 2... 1...0."

5.If the scanner says "Program tag error", either of these errors occurred.

•Flash drive was not inserted within the time interval – start over.

•Scanner does not recognize your flash drive. Check the following – start over.

•Make sure flash drive is in FAT32 or FAT16 format.

•Make sure the write protect switch of the flash drive is not engaged.

6.The scanner copies the requested clone data to the USB Flash Drive. After the Scan Advisor Lights stop flashing, wait five seconds until the beeping sounds stop. Then, remove the flash drive.

7.Insert the USB Flash Drive into a USB port on the NCR 7879 you want to clone. The information on the USB Flash Drive should copy automatically. Some of the Scan Advisor Lights flash sequentially while this occurs.

8.Remove the USB Flash Drive and insert it into a USB port on the next NCR 7879 being cloned. Repeat until all required NCR 7879 Scanners are cloned.
