Special Function Tags
Following is a description of each special function tag. These tags are not used when programming a NCR 7879.
RESET
Scanning the Reset tag causes the NCR 7879 to reset all functions. This is the same as removing and then applying power. If this tag is scanned while programming the NCR 7879, all information entered since the last time the Save and Reset tag was scanned is lost.
•The Top Bar turns bright green to indicated a good scan.
•Short beep is given as soon as tag is read – Good Read tone.
•Scanner beeps to indicate it read the Reset tag.
•The Scan Advisor indicates Startup. Refer to Scan Advisor for a description of the Startup indication.
VOLUME ADJUSTMENT
The Volume Adjustment tag works the same as pressing the Volume Adjust button. However, disabling the Volume Adjust button through programming does not affect the use of this tag. Also the volume level obtained by using this tag is temporary and is not maintained if the NCR 7879 is reset. If this tag is used while programming the NCR 7879, the volume level is kept once the Save and Reset tag is scanned.
•The Top Bar turns bright green to indicated a good scan.
•Short beep is given at the new volume level as soon as tag is read – Good Read tone.
FIRMWARE FLASHING
The Firmware Flashing tag is used to put the NCR 7879 into the Firmware Flashing mode; it is not needed if remote firmware flashing is being used. Refer to Firmware Flashing.
MODE 1
The Mode 1 tag is used to access the tallies available in PACESETTER III. Each time the tag is scanned a different tally is displayed on the Remote Compact Display. To exit this mode, scan the Reset tag.
MODE 2
The Mode 2 tag puts PACESETTER III in Mode 2. In this mode PACESETTER III analyzes the bar code just scanned and identifies its readability. This continues as each bar code is scanned while in Mode 2. To exit this mode, scan the Reset tag.
RESET TALLIES
The Reset Tallies tag resets all tallies captured by PACESETTER III. Each tally is reset to zero.
DIAGNOSTIC MODE
The Diagnostic Mode tag puts the NCR 7879 in the Base Diagnostic State where additional diagnostics are available for the service technician. This tag should only be used by the NCR Field Engineer while servicing the NCR 7879. For more information refer to the NCR RealScan™ 79 (7879) Service Guide (B005-0000-2300).
SPEAK ENABLED BAR CODES
This bar code prompts the scanner to speak a list of the bar code symbologies that the scanner is programmed to recognize and read.
•The Scan Advisor Lights are dim green.
•Scanner begins speaking as soon as bar code is scanned. It talks and lists all the bar codes currently enabled in the scanner.
Example: “UPC EAN is ON, Periodical P2 is ON...Periodical P5 is ON...Code 128 is ON.”
•Scanner beeps when it is done speaking the enabled symbologies.
SPEAK NCR 7879 SERIAL NUMBER
This bar code enables the user to obtain the NCR 7879 Serial Number without having to remove the unit from the checkstand, or other installation device such as a self-checkout system, and looking at the manufacturing name plate label on the back of the unit.
•The Top Center Bar in the Scan Advisor lights up bright green while it is speaking, then goes back to dim green when it’s done.
•As soon as the scanner reads the bar code, it says “Scanner S N” then speaks all 10 digits.
•If the NCR 7879 says “Scanner S N 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0”, then the actual serial number is NOT stored in memory.
•The NCR 7879 beeps when it is done speaking the serial number.
