Set Lengths for Code 39

The length of a code refers to the number of characters (that is, human readable characters), including check digits the code contains.

The following are length options for Code 39:

  • One Discrete Length—decodes only Code 39 symbols containing a selected length.
    Example

    To decode only Code 39 symbols with 14 characters, scan Code 39 - One Discrete Length, and then scan the numeric bar codes 1 and 4 from Numeric Bar Codes.

  • Two Discrete Lengths—decodes only Code 39 symbols containing either of two lengths.
    Example

    To decode only Code 39 symbols containing either 2 or 14 characters, scan Code 39 - Two Discrete Lengths, and then scan the numeric bar codes 0, 2, 1, and 4 from Numeric Bar Codes.

  • Length Within Range—decodes only Code 39 symbols with a specific length range (2 to 55).
    Note

    To decode only Code 39 symbols containing between 4 and 12 characters, scan Code 39 - Length Within Range, and then scan the numeric bar codes 0, 4, 1, and 2 from Numeric Bar Codes.

  • Any Length—decodes only Code 39 symbols containing any number of characters within the capability of the scanner.
Note

Enter a leading zero for single‑digit numbers. To correct an error or change the selection, scan the Cancel bar code in Numeric Bar Codes.

The following are length ranges:

  • L1: 0 to 80
  • L2: 0 to 80

Scan one of the following bar codes to set the length for Code 39. By default, this parameter is set to Length Within Range.
