Selling clearance items
To continuously clear out slow-selling merchandise, some retailers use a discounting strategy in which a batch of items are sold with a discount that increases over time until the items sell out. The Advanced Store application minimizes the effort of manually re-tagging clearance merchandise with a new price by enabling retailers to embed the clearance code on the item bar code and then linking the clearance code to a discount that is created in AMS Logix.
To sell clearance items, the following conditions must be satisfied:
- The application is integrated with the NCR Advanced Marketing Solution (AMS) application. For more information, refer to AMS Integration.
- The retailer has configured the POS to scan and accept the bar code format and type. For more information, refer to Configurable Inputs (Input Validation).
- The retailer has entered the bar code parsing information. For more information, refer to Validation Definitions.
- The retailer has embedded the clearance code in the item bar code. For more information, refer to the Product Prices API or consult with an NCR Representative.
- The retailer has created the discount offer in AMS Logix. For more information, consult with an NCR Representative.

Each store with a different discount per clearance level requires a separate promotion setup.
