Uninstalling the POS Application
A POS technical user exists in the Enterprise Solutions Database Server. This user enables newly installed POS terminals to securely gather and access data communicated throughout the Enterprise. A set of technical users have been pre-configured during the batch apply process when the Enterprise Solutions Servers are first set up.
Using its technical user credentials, the POS secures its communication across the Enterprise using tokens. This information is stored in the Tenet–1.dat file that is stored in the NCR folder in the system’s Program Data folder. This technical user data contains the last known good token for the POS technical user.
These instructions assume that there are no changes to the software prerequisite versions. Uninstallation instructions for software prerequisites are not provided. If it is necessary to uninstall the software prerequisites, visit the applications’ corresponding websites.
Before uninstalling the POS, NCR recommends determining the following:
- If the Enterprise Solutions Database Server will be re-installed with new data.
- The intention for the technical user data file. Depending on the retailer’s decision, this data can be restored and re-used for the new POS installation.
- If the CoreDb database in the Database Server is unchanged, do not delete the Tenet-1.dat file. The newly installed POS re-uses the existing token contained in the Tenet-1.dat file to connect to the Enterprise Solutions Servers.
- If the existing token in the re-used Tenet-1.dat file has expired, the token can be used for getting a new token.
- If the last good known token is stored in the Database Server, but the Tenet-1.dat file in the POS has been deleted, the system locks out the POS technical user from the POS and a password reset for the POS technical user would be required. For more information about troubleshooting this issue, refer to POS technical user is locked out.
- Verify whether the software prerequisites and the NCR Universal Engine versions have changed. If there are no changes in the prerequisites, it is not necessary to uninstall the prerequisites.
For best practices, consult with an NCR Representative.
