Applying an Item Discount
Associates can apply discounts on items using any of the following methods:
- By adding a manual discount amount off and discount percent off
- By scanning a coupon during a sales transaction
- By manually entering a coupon discount during a sales transaction
The POS application supports two types of coupons:
- Manufacturer coupons—issued by manufacturers of retail products that are sold in the store. Manufacturer coupons are used to offer promotional discounts to a particular item or a group of items.
- Store coupons—issued by a store to offer promotional discounts to a particular item or a group of items.
Configurable features
This POS application can be configured with the following features:

- Discounts > Enable Item Coupon
- Hide the Manufacturer Coupon button and/or Store Coupon button from the Coupon Type screen. Refer to the following options:
- Discounts > Enable Manufacturer Coupon
- Discounts > Enable Store Coupon
- Print or remove coupon items and the coupon header from the receipt. Refer to the following options:
- Discounts > Print Line item on the receipt for Coupon/Promo items

The POS application observes the following restrictions on coupons:
- Coupons cannot result in a credit. For example, if an item is on sale for $2.59 and the customer submits a $3.00 coupon, the price of the item becomes $0. There is no credit of 41¢ owed to the customer.
- Only one coupon can be applied to each item in a sales transaction. After a coupon has been applied to an item, the Coupon option is no longer available for that item.
Manufacturer coupons
As part of promotions, manufacturers of retail products issue manufacturer coupons to offer promotional discounts to a specific item or a group of items. In the POS application, manufacturer coupons observe the following actions when applied in a sales transaction:
- Manufacturer coupons are considered as item markdowns.
- Manufacturer coupons are added as an item entry.
- The discounted amount is not displayed in the Discount field in the Subtotal area.
- The discounted amount is automatically applied and is displayed in the Subtotal field in the Subtotal area.
