Scan Advisor
The status of the NCR 7877 is indicated by the Scan Advisor that is located at the top of the Vertical Scan Window. The Scan Advisor consists of a small board with a tri-color LED that is programmed to provide visual information of scanner status. The different colors can be bright, dim, solid, flashing, or flashing in a specific sequence. The Clean Window Indicator is a separate indicator that is included with the Scan Advisor.
Following are the available status indications. Select the graphic display for a description of the status condition. Select the graphic display a second time to hide the description.
Solid Cyan
Startup
Scanner is turned ON
Scan Advisor – Solid Cyan
The power has just been supplied to the NCR 7877, and the Power‑On Wellness Check is running. When done, the Scan Advisor light momentarily turns to Solid Cyan. Then, the next status indication displays, normally Idle – Enabled.
Solid Dim Green
Idle – Enabled
Scanner is idle
Scanning is enabled
Scan Advisor – Solid Dim Green
The scanner is waiting for a bar code to pass through the Scan Zone.
Solid Low Dim Green
Asleep – Enabled
Scanner is asleep
Scanning is enabled
Scan Advisor – Solid Low Dim Green
The scanner is enabled and can read a bar code when a bar code passes through the Scan Zone. However, because of inactivity, the scanner is in Sleep mode. When the scanner detects a motion or a shadow, the Scan Advisor light turns to Dim Green.
Flashes Bright Green
Good Scan
Scan Advisor – Flashes Bright Green
The scanner successfully scanned a bar code.
Solid Bright Green
Present Tag Scanned
Scan Advisor – Solid Bright Green
The bar code is scanned and is still in the Scan Zone. When the bar code is removed from the Scan Zone, the Scan Advisor light turns to Dim Green.
Solid Bright Red
Awake – Disabled
Scanner is awake
Scanning is disabled
Scan Advisor – Solid Bright Red
The scanner is awake (not in Sleep mode); however, scanning is disabled.
Solid Dim Red
Asleep – Disabled
Scanner is asleep
Scanning is disabled
Scan Advisor – Solid Dim Red
Because of inactivity, the scanner is in Sleep mode. Also, scanning is disabled. When a bar code passes through the Scan Zone, it cannot be read by the scanner.
Flashes Bright Orange
EAS Deactivated
EAS tag is deactivated
Scan Advisor – Flashes Bright Orange
An EAS tag was manually deactivated. The EAS tag on an item was placed within range of the deactivating device and the EAS Deactivation button on the NCR 7877 was touched.
Flashes Magenta
Firmware Flashing through the Flash Application or a USB Flash Drive
Scan Advisor – Flashes Magenta
The firmware flashing procedure is running. When the procedure starts, the Scan Advisor light initially turns to Magenta, then repeatedly flashes Magenta until the firmware flashing procedure is done.
Flashes Bright Blue
Firmware Flashing through an Ethernet‑based Network
Scan Advisor – Flashes Bright Blue
The firmware flashing procedure is running. When the procedure starts, the Scan Advisor light initially turns to Magenta, then repeatedly flashes Blue until the firmware flashing procedure is done.
Flashes Bright Orange
Scan Window Needs Cleaning
Clean Window Indicator– Flashes Bright Orange
The Clean Window Indicator flashes if either the Horizontal Scan Window, the Vertical Scan Window, or both are dirty. The Clean Window Indicator flashes at three different rates: slow, medium, and fast. Faster flashing indicates a dirtier Scan Window.
