Opening POS Terminals

Normally, a store should already be opened before opening a POS terminal. If the store is closed, an authorization override is required before associates can open the terminal.

The POS terminal must be opened before signing on to start a sales transaction. Associates should close the terminal at the end of each day to define sales reports, periods, and so on. The associate then opens the terminal at the start of each day to initialize a new business date.

Note

The Closed screen is the default screen that displays after the CMOS is configured. This means that the associate must open the POS terminal to sell merchandise.

The terminal is opened using an Associate ID and Associate Password. After authorization, the application then displays the Sale Main Menu screen. In Service Desk mode, the application displays the Transaction Types screen. For more information, refer to Understanding Authorized User Role Restrictions.

To open the POS terminals and then sign on to the POS application, follow these steps:

  1. Open the POS terminal. For more information, refer to Opening a POS terminal.
  2. Assign a Till ID to the terminal till. For more information, refer to Assigning a till to a terminal.
  3. Enter the loan amount for the terminal till. For more information, refer to Entering an opening loan amount.
  4. Sign on to the POS application. For more information, refer to Signing On to the POS Application.
