Troubleshooting
Occasionally a problem may occur with the NCR 7879. If this happens, check the following.

Do This First
Perform the following before calling for service.

Verify that there is proper AC power supplied to the Power Supply, if included. |

Reset the NCR 7879 by removing and then supplying power. |
|
4.
|
Verify that all cables are properly connected. |
|
5.
|
Verify that the Scan Windows are clean. |
|
6.
|
If the NCR 7879 includes a scale, verify that there are no obstructions to the Top Plate movement. |
|
7.
|
Set the scale to zero by touching the Scale Zero button. |
|
8.
|
Verify that the host terminal is functioning properly. |
Scanner Problems
Possible Cause / Corrective Action
Problem with Power Supply – if included with system
|
1.
|
Check AC receptacle for having proper power. |
|
2.
|
Check Power Supply – Green light should be on. |
|
3.
|
Check Power Supply cable connections. |
Problem receiving power from the host terminal – Power Supply not used
|
1.
|
Check host terminal for being on. |
|
2.
|
Check communication cable connections. |

NCR 7879 is not communicating with host
|

2.

Check host terminal for being turned on. |

Check host terminal for proper operation. |

Internal Failure

Power cycle the scanner – Off then On. |

See Power Bar if an error code is displayed. |
Scanner disabled by host terminal

Verify Host Terminal is enabling scanner with transaction. |

Scanning outside of Scan Zone

Scan all items within the Scan Zone. |
Poor tag contrast or quality

Scan closer to Scan Window. |
Excessively dirty/scratched Horizontal Scan Window Glass

Clean the Horizontal Scan Window Glass. |
Poor camera focus

Problems communicating with Host Terminal

Reset 7879 by scanning the Reset tag. |

Check communications cable connections. |

Check programming and correct as needed. |
Scale Problems
Possible Cause / Corrective Action
Scale is under weight
|
1.
|
Verify that the Top Plate is properly located on the NCR 7879. |
|
2.
|
Remove any debris and foreign objects from under the Top Plate. |
|
3.
|
Touch the Scale Zero button. |
Top Plate is restricted from moving
|
4.
|
Remove any foreign objects from around the Top Plate and Produce Guard. |
|
5.
|
Touch the Scale Zero button. |
Power Supply problem
|
6.
|
Turn the NCR 7879 off then on. |
Remote Scale Display not working
|
7.
|
Check Display Cable for being properly connected to the NCR 7879. |
|
8.
|
Replace the Remote Scale Display. |
NCR 7879 is not programmed for a scale
|
9.
|
Program the NCR 7879 for a scale – Program Mode, Hex 3, Hex 0, Hex 3, Save and Reset. |

Too much weight on Top Plate

Remove items from Top Plate. |
