Understanding the merchandise menu feature
Merchandise menus are configurable menus on the POS application. Retailers
can use this feature to categorize or group their items into custom menus.
The merchandise menu feature has the following components:
- Merchandise menus—refer to menus which retailers can create and configure to categorize items as preferred. Retailers can create multiple merchandise menus and arrange them in a hierarchy of levels as preferred. The Advanced Store publication refers to the hierarchy of levels of merchandise menus as follows:
- First-level merchandise menus—refer to merchandise menus displayed on the main Merchandise Menu screen.
- Sub-level merchandise menus—refer to any level of merchandise menus assigned under a first-level merchandise menu. Depending on the number of levels a sub-level menu is nested from the first-level menu it is assigned to, it can also be referred to as second-level, third-level, fourth-level, and so on.
- Merchandise menu items—refer to store products assigned to merchandise menus.
- POS buttons—refer to the buttons displayed on the POS application that are assigned to open a merchandise menu or merchandise menu item. Note If assigned to a merchandise menu item, selecting the corresponding button on The POS application adds the item to a sales transaction. The merchandise menu feature primarily uses the following parameter groups to create and configure merchandise menus and merchandise menu items:
- Merchandise Menus—this is a multi-record parameter group that enables retailers to create merchandise menus.
- Merchandise Menu Buttons—this is a multi-record parameter group that enables retailers to create POS buttons for merchandise menus and merchandise menu items.Note By default, the Merchandise Menu Buttons parameter group has an existing record with the button ID 1. This record can be configured as a merchandise menu or as a merchandise menu item. Configure the record as preferred.
The POS application provides the following merchandise menu configuration features:
- Enabling the merchandise menu feature
- Creating merchandise menus
- Creating merchandise menu items
- Selling merchandise menu items
