Looking Up Items
Use the Item Lookup feature to search for items that match a specified item criteria. The POS application supports the following Item Lookup functions:
- Look up an item outside a sales transaction
- Add an item from a lookup to a sales transaction
- Locate the stores selling an item
The Item Lookup global button is accessible from the following screens:
- Sign On
- Transaction Types
- Sale Main Menu
Configurable features
The POS application can be configured with the following features.
- Specify the item criteria fields that are displayed on the Item Lookup screen. For more information, refer to the following sections:
- Define the column headings on the Item Lookup Result screen using the Configurable Text tool. For more information, refer to Changing the names of UI components and receipt text.
- Specify the maximum number of results for a lookup. Refer to the following option:
- Item Setup > Maximum Items Returned From Lookup
- Locate an item’s inventory in the local store and in other stores. For more information, refer to the following sections:

- Adding Items through Item Lookup
- Configure the application to collect additional item information, such as serial number, IMEI, electronic serial number, or email address. This feature may requires an Information Set to be added as an attribute using the Products API. Refer to the following sections:
- Configure the POS application to accept alphanumeric product or item codes when looking up items. Refer to the following section:
- Information Field Definitions > Field ID > ItemCode. Set the Custom Input Type value to Alphanumeric.
