Managing Gift Cards

The Advanced Store solution supports the following gift card features:

The AS solution also accepts third-party gift cards from VISA, MasterCard, Amex, and other credit card issuers. The POS accepts and processes these third-party gift cards as credit cards using a specific payment solution. For more information about payment solutions, consult with an NCR Representative. Configurable features

The POS application can be configured with the following features.

  • Enable the gift card sale button. Refer to the following option:
    • General > Enable Gift Card Sale Button
  • Enable the Swipe Card On Pin Pad button and display the gift card balance details on the PIN pad. Refer to the following option:
    • General > Enable Swipe Card On Pin Pad Button For Gift Card Balance Inquiry
  • Set up the gift card sales functions.
    • Redeem remaining gift card balances.
    • Accept gift card reloading. By default, gift cards are set for one-time use. Set the gift card provisioning type to reloadable to reuse and add value to existing gift cards.

  • Define gift card entry methods. Gift cards can be entered into a transaction by manually keying in the gift card number, scanning the gift card, or swiping the gift card. Refer to the following options:
  • Sell gift cards when in offline mode. Refer to the following option:
  • Determine which provisioning method is used for a gift card type in sales transactions. Refer to the following option:

  • Print the gift card balance. By default, The POS application prints a gift card balance chit when a gift card is bought, reloaded, or swapped. The POS can be configured to automatically print a gift card balance chit when a value is added to the card according to the type of transaction being performed.   • Automatically print chits for all balance inquiry types. For more information, refer to Receipt Printing.
  • Print the voided gift card and merchandise card tender information on the sales, return, or exchange receipt. This feature applies to single partial tender and mid-void. For more information, refer to Receipt Printing.
  • Set maximum and minimum gift card load amounts. Limit load amounts for gift cards when selling gift cards, using gift cards for refund transactions, swapping gift cards, and other loading transactions. Refer to the following options:
  • Prompt for a PIN. The POS can be enabled to require a PIN based on the gift card entry method. For more information, refer to Gift Card Types.
  • Prompt the associate to reset the gift card and merchandise card tenders if the tenders fail to void. This feature applies only to single partial tender, mid-void, and post-void transactions. For more information, refer to Gift Card Setup.
  • Specify the length of the gift card number. For more information, refer to Validation Definitions.
  • Enable manual entry during gift card sales, tendering, balance inquiry, and gift card swaps when the POS is integrated with the Verifone Point payment solution. This feature is dependent on the value configured for the Enable Manual Entry on PIN Pad Button for Gift Cards parameter. When the parameters Enable Manual Entry on PIN Pad Button for Gift Cards and Enable Manual Entry for Stored Value Card Issuance at PIN Pad are set to yes, the manual entry button will be enabled for issuing a stored value card.
